Speaker 1 (00:04):
NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart
Podcasts episode nineteen NHL Unscripted Coming at You, And this
is going to be a fantastic episode as Barrett Hating
(00:24):
is gonna join us of Utah. Might be too little,
too late, but Utah is making a spirited push and
he's obviously having a fantastic season for an up and
coming team. He's set career highs in all the major categories.
So can't wait to talk to Barret Hayton. Plots. We'll
talk about the Panthers. Are they tanking? Huh? Is this
finally gonna be the Kings Year? Where is Gabrielandeska gonna land?
Lots of good stuff come up here, including cinefil and
sixty looking at the Great robertson Hera, his new movie
(00:46):
in theaters, specially a new show on Netflix in case
you have been seeing that, Jadi. We begin though the
fact Alexandervechkin, you and Tal crashing it the other day.
I mean I got wally pipped because Tal played the
role of host. Fantastic job, but you guys get kicked
on a Sunday night. Fantastic We're running a three man,
leave here now, dude, this is amazing. Yeah, you were.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
You know you don't work on off days non wednesdays,
so you called in, Tal, You called it.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
No, I was flying to Winnipeg and I let him
stop over in Minneapolis and then I went to a peg,
but go ahead continue, So Tal came in across.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
You could have done it. You've done how in the
middle of the airport. Once you've done it in the
airport once and there's a will, there's a way. But Tal,
like the utility man that he is, jumps in says,
you know what, Nie, the time is nigh. It was.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
It was definitely very entertaining listening to that episode and
of course the video of you on HL network pumping
your fist in unions because you were actually there and
watching exactly the fist pumping for the ages. Dating with
that crowd, it seemed like an amazing atmosphere. You were
there for both games, right, No, you were.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
No, I was just there for watching. I was there
in d C. I trained to d C. I took
a train to d C and then we were at
the rink. We did a little show from the concourse,
not the concourse, like just in front of the front door.
I mean, yeah, no, no, the outside we were outside
with the Yeah, we were outside with the crowd, with
the masses, with the absolute trash in d C.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
But I like it.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
No, the the energy was like a playoff game. It was.
It was insane. And here's the thing. We finished the show,
so we trained and went right into the show, so
we had no time really to kind of do anything.
And we're kind of sitting there and we're like, you know,
the game, there's gonna be a long ceremony, Like let's
go have a by teat and like, you know, if
he scores one, we'll go run in. He's like, let's
have a by teat, right, So we start walking down
(02:28):
the street and we're like, ah, where do we go eat?
And all of a sudden, all hears man and we're like, shit,
we better get in there. We're like he's gonna do it.
We're like, there's no way he's going to score a
night A in Chicago. And all week I was saying, yeah,
he's playing a young Chicago team. He has some chance.
He scores. Like the first five minutes, we ran inside
watched the whole game after that, and I mean, I
jumped into I was telling tal quick revision. I jumped
(02:49):
into Boiler's arms. I was so excited. It was like
I felt like a kid. It took me back to
being a kid cheering on you know, your your hometown team.
So but talk to me a little bit about Winnipeg,
because we already did this whole show.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Sure, fourth in the final trip to Winnipeg.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Talk about about Winnipeg.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Fourth and final trip, I mean, mercifully, we're done with
We're done with the peg here. Okay, say uncle uncle
Gee like you, you're the kind of guy you're upbeating
no matter where you are. But even you'd be like
Jesus Winnipeg again. I gotta be honest with you. I
was so excited for the game. Blues had won twelve
straight games. You know, I love Jim Montgomery. Monty who,
by the way, the fourth line for the Blues. They're
calling him WTF, what the fuck? Or they're calling them
(03:25):
that I said, is that a great line?
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Right? Crazy facts at torpe Chenco and Nathan Walker excellent.
Well do they're a little buzzsaw line too. They just
run around with that Walkers guy. We talked about it.
You got a little pissing them, pissed jugs, the team
of pissed jugs.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
So I'm fired. Okay, the Blues have won twelve straight games.
Now they're taking on Jets and help. But first, peride,
it's awful, like eight combined shots on goal and this
is garbage, and they go well some does it happen?
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Slow starts.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Ultimately the Jets suffocate them for the win. And I
gotta say, Hellibuck, I know we've talked a lot about
the Heart Trophy conversation. You've been mentioning coucher off under
appreciate if HELLI Buck pulls us off and he's on
the verge right now of being number one and wins
goals against say perc engine shutouts, maybe the first of
those four categories since the great Bob Froze back in
eighty five eighty six for the Flowers. If he gets
that done, it's ballgame. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
I honestly, we looked at the odds and if he's
first in every category, it's hard to deny him. And
he's been wired to wire. Like we haven't talked to
him because he's in Winnipeg in a smaller market. He
hasn't had a dip all season. This team hasn't had
a dip, So I'm like, have they been at their
ceiling all year? Or is this just does Scott ar'neil
have them in such a perfect position that they're gonna
do it and they're finally gonna get out of the
(04:33):
goddamn first round. Since twenty eighteen they get out of
the first round. So if they hey, this is just
all lining up for even a bigger choke job if
they do it. But hopefully you know Josh Morrissey, fan
of the show, Yes, he texted me on the side
and said he wants to come on, but they're dialing
in for playoffs, so they're ready to go.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
So it's your larger points. So the Winnipeg just by
the way, I looked at bet MGM. We said this
to Kevin shovel day off the GM as we walked
him in. We go, Chevy, look at this the odds
right now to win the Western Conference. The Jets are fifth.
It goes like Avalie, it goes Stars, it goes Oilers,
make no respect, and Chevy great lines like, well, I
don't even know gamling, so hey, we're gonna pick. We're
always gonna punch up, but they're starting to build a
(05:11):
little bit this buzz. Hey, Winnipeg, if as you said,
they can overcome those past issues, maybe this is their
year with the Torontomy beliefs. I am stunned. I am
shocked how many people are now saying, if ever there
was a chance the Leafs were gonna do it, it's
this year with Craig Berubi. With this defense, I go
golden is not good enough? They go okay. Well, aside
from Bobroski and Bassilevski, where are the elite goalies in
the East, Like anyone's got a chance. If one Goali
(05:33):
gets hot, who knows. But this is the best chance
the Leaves have had so to that end, you're gonna
have the Ottawa centers now in the playoffs. Your Habs.
They're not just calling him Jason Nimers are calling him
no Stra Demerz because you called it two weeks ago.
The Habs are gonna make the playoffs and they're gonna
do so. You said Ivetsk would get the record this year.
He did so. So Habs are gonna be in center
in flames. Unfortunately, not gonna be oilers in five Canadian
(05:53):
teams in. Are we finally gonna end the round since
nineteen ninety three, no stra Demerz.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Yeah, that's a yes, emphatic yes. Ah I this there
is has not been a better time than this year.
Dare I say in the past we're at thirty years,
will be thirty one? The Canadian team, I think it's
thirty two. This is the year that and the best
(06:19):
chance that we have five teams. I mean, you know
the way Ottawa's playing right now, defensively, I know they
dropped their last game, but you know it's kind of
they're in now and they made the playoffs, so I'm
interested to see how they They're missing Brady Kuchuk to
Canadians get you know, Canadians are on a heater. They're
playing so great. Sam montinbo is playing incredible. That top
line of Slavkowski, Suzuki, cole Koff, I mean, Nick Suzuki,
(06:42):
you can't say enough about what he's done since four Nations.
And then Lane Hudson, who's having a career year first
year to the season.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Now, so Hatson's gonna get the Calder.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Yeah, he's locked up for the call. There's no chance.
I mean, he's he's breaking NHL records like records of
all time assist by defenseman. He's one off. I think
who's he missing? He's second on the all time list,
and he's won away from getting it. Tell you you correct.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
I believe he got my doppel game. I think he
tied cell record for points.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Yeah, that's points by defenseman, but assist all time, he's
he's number two, So tal will get that number.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
To us by Larry Murphy.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
That's incredible, insane. He's what he's and I watched, I've watched,
and I've really dialed in him and the offensive zone.
He's Quinn Hughes esque. Uh, and he's a lot better
defensively than people think. So he's on my list. And
you look down in the West. You got Winnipeg. I mean,
there's a year for Winnipeg to win. This is the
team to do it.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
And then you've got Edmonton, who who knows when they
get healthy and what they can do. I think Edmonton will.
They'll only meet Winnipeg in the conference finals. So those
two teams in the West can clear out the two
Canadian teams And imagine Winnipeg versus Edmonton and the conference
Can you imagine that.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
A nightmare for Turner in ESPN, but it's.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Gary will be like.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
But McDavid and drysl versus Hallibug, Shifley Connor. Yeah, it'd
be great hockey.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
And then and then out east it's you know, you
look at Montreal and again they're close to Ottawa. Montreal.
Ottawa has the capabilities to upset Washington because the thing
with Washington, as we talked about it and I've now
watched in the past week or so, and maybe it's
just because they were trying to get Ovechkin the record,
but they have not been playing good hockey at all.
The goaltending has been suffering. They're giving up way too
(08:27):
many chances. They've been really soft on the d side
of the puck. Alexi Protus gets injured two games ago.
There's a lot that I don't like in that team.
And I don't know if they've just been clicking at
such a high level because they're playing for Alex Ovechkin
and also the Ovechkin effect. Novechkin last year in the
playoffs kind of had you know, he went on the
scoring tear, ended up with thirty thirty one, kind of
(08:50):
disappeared in the playoffs. Now is he gonna do it
again they go into the playoffs. What is he really
playing for? He's won a cup, he's got the all
time goals record. It's going to be on him to
self motivate to keep playing for the guys. So I'm
a little unsure at how if the gas pedals all
the way down, they got their foot on the gas
and they're going still, and you're playing a team like
(09:12):
the Canadians at this Bell Center. Man, oh my god,
it's gonna be there.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Darryl Demrz right now is losing his money.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Oh he's losing his mind right now. He's he He
called me today. We got to get tickets. Get me tickets.
He goes call Christian Devoak, I need tickets. I'm like,
they're not in yet. Dead settle down.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
I'm telling you right now, fans, if the Habs make
the playoffs, we all believe they will, Daryl de Merz
will be a guest as much as he wants. He'll
come on for a Habs minute.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
We do sixty.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
We're doing Canadians in sixty. Let's go.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
He's he's great, and I mean listen, Habs are also
getting to put a ball on this this is the
year for the Canadians. But the Habs they're also getting
Ivan Demodov. Oh yeah, there we go and and talk
to me. I'm gonna I'm gonna segue into this.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
After my rant, I've in Demoedoff and I've gotten inside
sources from the Kremlin. Inside the Kremlin, I got it.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
For those For those who think you're being hyperbolic, you
did play in the kh play in Russia and I
have a lot in side.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Source is still there. I'm not a Russian spy, so
don't say anything like that. But I have guys that
are playing in the KHL Wow that I texted and
I was like hey, I was like, give me some
down low on Demodoff, Like, I know he's his talent,
what do you think? And the things I got is
he's better than Mishkoff. What a better skater, wow, more
(10:24):
skilled than Meetshkoff, bigger player as well. They also said
that in that playoff round they just played, they lost
in the playoffs, he was the best player. He is
NHL ready if he gets a little bit stronger, which
will happen next year, but I think he'll be playing
on so much adrenaline when he comes playing in the NHL,
playing in that Bell Center, playing in that atmosphere, that
(10:45):
he'll be just fine. But if he gets a little
bit stronger, this is going to be a dominant player.
So again, you look at Mitchkoff, he played in Sochi
was not a great team, so he was able to
really thrive. Demonows is the best player on one of
the best teams in the KHL. That's hard to do
as a young guy. He just and then here's the
other things I said. He's he's the ice really well,
skill set's going to be really good. Gets a touch stronger,
(11:08):
it's going to help him out for sure. But these
are guys that have played and are in this league
that are like, this guy is the real deal. He's
and all the talk I've heard out of Montreal like
he's going top six, He's getting top six minutes right away.
He's not gonna take first line, but he'll be on
that second line. And I think he's gonna really be
(11:28):
He's going to really be an impact player early. And
I think people are the real fans in Montreal that
have really been watching him are really excited. And I
didn't quite know a bit and I watched him. I mean,
this guy is just a highlight reel, but his skills
and I just heard right now he's gonna come in
and probably be better than the Meatchoff. And look what
meats him this year.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
That's incredible. Top three, top four as far as the
call and.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
The Meachcoff fans and Philly will come for me. But yes,
you know that's that's the headline is He's got to
be better than Meechkoff and right now will probably be
better than him. So I'm gonna I'm gonna have to
eat some craw if.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
I'm I like it bolder.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
This is what I've heard, and I've heard it from
inside the kremlin, all right.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Before I kick it to tell, I do want to
mention specifically the guards of Lane Hudson. The record for
assists by a rookie defenseman Larry Murphy with sixty in
nineteen eighty eighty one. Lanne Hudson curly is fifty eight,
so to your point, could be a record breaker among
all defensemen. Tal as a boyhood failed a bunch of
all Canadians. Your level excitement right now about this team, man,
adding demodop to JD's points one minute, theyre going to
make the playoffs and bother of the habs in their
(12:26):
stort history have the never missed the plasts four straight seasons.
They had to at least get the dances here. But
are they capable of upsetting the Caps?
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Well? A little background first.
Speaker 5 (12:36):
I grew up a short walk from the old Forum
and actually was a little kid haggling with scalpers outside
of the building.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
If anyone remembers scalpers.
Speaker 5 (12:45):
Yes, I was, tell you with the mustache when you
were Yeah, yeah, at twelve, I had the mustache haggling.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
Come on, I mean everyone everyone, I'm everyone I'm talking to.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
I still have plenty of friends and family Montreal that
the energy is absolutely off the charts with the Canadians
right now. Part of it is because they're they're the
guys leading the charge. Are their younger players. It's Hudson,
It's Cawfield, Suzuki slaf you know, these are the guys
who are supposed to be leading this team in the
playoffs two three years from now, not now. I think
(13:18):
there's a lot of confidence. I think it looks like
it's gonna be the Capitals. I don't see it happening.
That team is so stacked, you never know. There's a
lot of references to twenty ten when it was the
same situation and Yaro Hallak introduced himself to the world.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
But it's exciting.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
I think.
Speaker 5 (13:35):
I think the management for that team said they wanted
to be in the mix and playing meaningful, meaningful games
in March and April.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
They did that.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
So everything from that moment on, including the demigod.
Speaker 5 (13:45):
As I like to call him, Wow, is just a
little a little extra icing to a fun season.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
Fun season for listen.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
They have that capability. I agree with talent and but
I think they're gonna give them all they can handle.
So Caps coming out of this round, they're gonna get
tested a lot more than people think. And that's going
to be It's not gonna be like last year where
you know, Washington Limpton, they were the team that Limpton
had just got swept in four nos, in and out.
I think these two teams in the wildcard spot Otto
(14:14):
one Montreal are here to play. They want to win.
They're here to play. They're not just gonna be satisfied
with being in the playoffs. They want to win.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Props for my buddy Jeff Gordon from NHL Network obviously
running the habs done a great job. And of course
Marty seeing Louis the head coach, there are some concerns
year three for Marty the guy get in. They're gonna
get in. That's good news there. As Tal was saying
that the front office wanted to be involved. They're involved
in the playoff picks, probably gonna be in the playoffs.
We go from a team right now flying on all
cylinders that Florida Panthers now strong performance against Stronomy Polieves
last night. But are the Panthers tanking? We don't typically
(14:45):
wait into conspiracy theories, but Jadie Simmers saying, hey, some
key player has been out of the lineup. Has him
been sliding down the standings. There's just four points up
on the Sins, who hold that first wild card SUP
on the East now to one lost the Wings on Sunday.
They're already without Matthew Kachuck and Aaron eck Bladd and
then chose to sit Barkoff, Forestling, Sam Reinhardt, Sam Bennett,
Nico Sturm to meet Cha Kolakoff. Some people think of that, Hey,
(15:05):
you know, they're just gonna take it the rest of
the way. Now, I will mention Barkoff, Fors and Whine
are all back that win against the Leaps last night.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
But what do you make of this, Well, you look
at the same situation in Edmonton. It's a team that
has went to the finals, played a lot of hockey,
a lot of meaningful hockey. Florida's went to the finals
two years in a row. Yep, you just got to
get there. This is a battle tested team, battle hardened
team in the Florida Panthers. They don't care where they
(15:32):
finished home ice, non home ice. It's not important to them.
They're gonna go anywhere they want. So for me, I
think it's more a question of Paul Maurice recognizing that
and recognizing you a veteran group that understands how to
win and knows how to win on the road, and
they're like, you know what, let's just get healthy. We
don't want to limp into the playoffs not healthy and
not one hundred percent. So he's going to give those
guys rest. I'm sure there's a lot of talk it's
(15:54):
the same thing with Edmonton. I was saying it three
four weeks ago. It's like just shut down Leon and
Connor until the last three games of the season. Leon
came back a little early. I think he was chasing
the art ross now and the art ross and potentially
the hard I think he gets a little dinged up
and they're like, you're done until, you know, until maybe
the last two games of the season. Let those guys
(16:14):
ramp up, have like a mini training camp. But it's
just not worth it. You got You're gonna need every minute,
every single minute, every second from those guys, and if
you don't have it, you're really gonna be in trouble.
And I think is a very gonna be a very
tough year to win the Cup. It's not gonna be
so cut and dry like years past for Florida as well.
You know, I don't think they're just gonna walk through
(16:35):
kind of like they did last year. It's gonna be tough.
The books out on him a little bit, not to
say that they're not dominant, but teams are gonna give
him their best foot forward. And the teams in the
East that are contending are better than they were last year.
So I think pal Murrays understands that Bill Zito understands
that they're not stupid. They're gonna go. Listen, we are
calming it down. Everybody, sit, relax, get healthy, get ready
(16:58):
for the run of all runs and years in the finals.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Yeah, and for Florida and Tampa, it's not as important
to win the division for it is right. The Leafs
don't get that spot. And I'm not saying the Battle
of on Terry's a walk over either, but I think
it's a stiffer challenge for them having to face Florida Tampas.
So they're pushing to try to win that division. For
Florida and Tampa, just said battle tested, but there before
be healthy and that could be a help a series
by the way, Panthers Lightning out of the Gate and
that Battle of Ontario. Speaking of awards, I just want
(17:21):
to quickly mention I never, you know, had to text
me the case with Frank Saravelli before, but he text
your Hi, man, this is Frank Serrevelli. How are you doing?
Wondering if you'd be interested in voting on NHL Awards
this year as an invited broadcaster, We do the heart
Norris calder Selki and Bank and Talent's expression was my expression, eyeser,
but my wing on. I get to be a voter.
People away. You vote for the Academy Awards, that could know,
(17:43):
I mean voting for the NHL Awards. Dude, that's unbelievable.
As a kid, that was a god. This is amazing.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Listen, very very happy for you for that, and also
happy for your Uber eats commercial. But where the fuck
is my commercial? Where's my voting thing? I'm broadcast? You're
going to text him right now?
Speaker 1 (17:58):
Hey, Frank, just as a follow up me, Jason de
Merse is curious, why the fuck is he not involved
as well? It's absolute bullsheto right there, dude, I'm Norris
called or Selk and big. I go, wow, I don't
even want vest because it's hell about anyways. I could
do the fun stuff, So yeah you should. If you're
gonna go Macar for Norris, I don't even macr. I
just go with bias. I've even mcar mccarth. Are you
(18:19):
allowed to disclose this great? Is this motor fraud? We
already discussed Hodson for Calder. That's done, okay, So you
give me a Selkie. I'll let you give me your
selki choice. God, take your time, you hit me up.
Whatever you want and you got. Hey, buddy, we're going
this for Selke. Okay, I've been I haven't look at
Selky yet, Teal, go ahead, man Selk there's gonna be
You can vote the Lady bang whatever you want. You
tell me the Lady bang Alo.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Yeah, there might be some new ones in Selke. I
hope they You know, I think Barkov's been Barkov has
been a little hurt this year to give it to him,
But you got you gotta look like Adrian KEMPI can
be on that list. He's one that can be on
that list. You look at Mark Scheifeley. Mark Scheifeley could
be on that list. Uh you look at who else
do I have that I'm thinking off the top of
(18:59):
my head, right two way player, Yeah, you're those two
kind of Robert Thomas, very very undercover. No one's talking
about them. I mean you could borderline say Nix Suzuki
at this point, I'm just saying the very underrated ones,
the people that aren't really gonna think. And then you know,
Austin Matthews is going to be in there, so is
(19:20):
you know bark Off. Those guys will be there. But
you know, even look at Washington, and you talk about
Washington the year they had and the team they had,
I mean you got to give some consideration to like
a peer Luke Dubois as well, Like those are just
my I'm just looking at my team who would be
I'm I'm not making any picks because Selki's always an
interesting one for me. I never know quite I kind
(19:41):
of know who they're gonna pick every year, but I
just like to pick other guys that maybe aren't often
talked about.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
And a familiar named talj just throughout.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
What about Copatar? Yeah, co Patar for sure. I mean
this season has had but I would argue Kempe has
kind of played that. They've played together in the penalty kill,
they played against the top lines, you know, and they've
really done a fantastic jobs. You're giving it to either one,
so it's I guess the guy you recognize more in
that position as the guy that gets it. So but
I listen, there's I think it's a tighter race for
(20:11):
the Selki this year than people think that was.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Actually Dovetails probably looks. I do want to do a
little Kings talk with you because you mentioned the oilers,
the fact that McDavid and dry sall not playing right now.
They're like, okay, fine, all good. It's gonna be the
fourth straight year Kings and Oilers now except in the past,
Oilers have had home ice all three times and the
Kings j D. I don't know how people have been
paying attention. This is a historic run they've had at
home this year twenty nine to five and four at
home sickening right, So normally I go home ice in
(20:36):
the playoffs. Could I know, the crowds are awesome and stuff,
but man, great teams can win on the road and
underachieving teams can lose at home. When I see twenty nine,
five and four, I go, okay, home ice could be
important in the best of seven and McDavid and Drysottle
could be just coming back literally just for the playoffs.
Is this finally the year you can buy on the Kings.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
I would buy in the Kings that you know the
Edmonton is. I'm not super bullish on them this year,
just because compared to last year, I just the vibes
and Edmonton seem off all over the place, and yeah,
it just doesn't seem right. I don't know the mix
of guys doesn't seem right. Something seems off with the
(21:14):
leadership group there. I don't know what it is. I
can't put my finger on it, but it's just been
from the season opener there's been just a negative cloud
over that team. Regardless of the winning streaks, regardless of
the season that dry titles having, it just doesn't seem
the same. Like Evan Bouchard offensive, he's having a great
season again, quietly no one's talking about him, but they're
(21:36):
talking about negatively, Like if you watch his game, you
wouldn't really think he's having a year like he had
last year. So Mattias, that Comb's injured, there's a lot
of injuries. You know, is Evander Kain coming back?
Speaker 6 (21:46):
Is he not?
Speaker 2 (21:47):
You know, how's Skinner doing. It's just weird. They lost
their two young guys to offer sheets. It just doesn't
feel like they're here. Maybe they pull it out of
the fire. But if I'm the Kings and I'm getting
home ice right now, that was what I said a
month ago. That is their biggest concern is getting home
ice advantag They get always advantage. They are a dangerous
team and especially round one and listen four times, you know,
(22:10):
death taxes and La King's playing dminton in the first round.
You know, the fourth times of charm. This is they
gotta bug up their ass to beat Edmonton. So it's like,
this is gonna be this is gonna be something like
they have a chip on their shoulder. They're not taking
this lightly. They've probably been pre scouting him since the
past month and now they get home Ice. I'm sure
they're gonna be very confident going in that series. But listen,
(22:33):
do you bet against me? Jesus and Leonidas? Who knows?
Speaker 1 (22:36):
That's why I love the fact you're pushing for the Kings,
but I just want to point out if they lose
a fourth straight in row against the Oilers, I mean,
you gotta it's all.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
You gotta hang them up.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
If you're look rabatiging guy, it's been fun.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
You feel like Jordan and Jordan pipping against the pistons there, Eh,
how do we beat this guy that's getting the gym?
Speaker 1 (22:54):
One more topic for the one to take a quick break.
Gabrielanda Scott speculation for a while, but coming back, we're
turning the line first time. It's winging the Stanley Cup.
Back in twenty twenty two, he's been loaned the Colorado
Eagles of the American Hockey League for conditioning stint knee
surgery in twenty twenty two. Cartilage transplant may have twenty
twenty three. I saw Jared Bednar when we were in
(23:14):
Dallas weeks ago, and I just it was amazing because
it was flames apps and talked to Nas and Kadrina's
was saying, I still mesmize missing the banner, and I thought,
I'm still mesmized with Jared Bednor's hair, Like I've never
seen anything like it. Like I'm just staring at it,
going like like what is happening here? Like how much
head and shoulders is he put in that thing? And
he's a surfing guy. Goes to Carolina, but I had
somehow to get the words out of my mouth. That's
I'm staring at his hair. Golis and atlantiscock coach and
(23:37):
he goes, oh, he's coaching with the team. You know,
it's kind of been around. I'm like, h and I
just I started to pulling the curls just to see
if it was real. But I know you're fired U
about this topic. Could Atlantis goot come back to this team?
Speaker 2 (23:46):
I think it's not if it's when. I just think
he's in the HL right now in conditioning stint and
it's gonna be very I think they're gonna test him out,
They're gonna just kind of play him some special teams.
But again, people are missing the mark on this. This
is not a question of islandis gonna come back and
be Gabriel Lanescog. I think those days might be gone
(24:08):
and I may be wrong, but can he come back?
Be the one thing that it's sorry, The one thing
that he can be is a great leader and a
guy to take some pressure off of a Nate McKinnon
on the bench and in the room, because Nate McKinnon
has to shoulder that load all by himself. He's really
been trying to do everything, be the leader, be the
points score, be everything for this team, and I think
(24:30):
it's going to take a toll on him if they
want to go in a long run. So this is
a guy that you can put on the bench and
will calm things down. Highly respected in the room, just
a great leader and again he can give you ten
twelve minutes. Nothing against Parker Kelly or Jimmy VC, but
I would rather have Gabelaniskog at seventy percent just his
hockey IQ Alon. Yeah, he's not going to be the
(24:50):
same player. I'm not expecting him to play twenty two
minutes a night, and maybe he's It's something where you
can plug and play him. You play him game one,
he sits Game two, you play in game three, and
you just kind of because on their bottom sixer's been
a little bit of all revolving to of guys. You
throw Gabriel lantisk that's a bonus. So I think this
coaching staff isn't stupid. I think they're very smart, very
(25:11):
underrated at how good of a coaching staff. This is
as a whole and as a group, their whole, the
whole GM, you know, McFarlane, from top to bottom. I
think this is very intelligent group of guys on the
management side of things and the coaching staff. They're gonna
do the right thing by this team. But this is
a guy that will only benefit you if he's sitting
(25:32):
on the bench. This is not a guy that's gonna
hurt you, especially with they're fine in the top six.
They don't need him in the top six. They're set.
Nishushkin nahis all these guys drawing liking in. They got
their top six, they're good, they're set. They need a
bottom six depth guy. Maybe play some power play on
the second unit and just be a good leader. And
(25:52):
that's what he does so well.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
Lantos go as you said, I'll be back soon around
the land for the Avalanches coming back next year on
NHL and scriptor we're talking to Barrett Hayden. That's right,
having a fantastic gear for the Utah Hockey Club. I
want to ask them what the team nickname could be
moving forward, Clayton Keller and also maybe some JD stories
as well. It's coming up right after this here unscripted
(26:21):
our special guest today. Draft of fifth o'ugh rawba the
Arizona Coyotes in the twenty eighteen NHL Draft in the
franchise his first season as the Utah Hockey Club, he
is poised to set career highs for goals, assists, and points.
He is a huge part of a young, up and
coming team in Utah. It is Baron Hayton here an
NHL unscripted Baron.
Speaker 6 (26:40):
Great to see you, yeah for sure, thanks for having
me on. Always good to see JD's face so happy
to be here, be nice.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
What's been the key this season? Do you think for
yourself Barrett? Like, obviously the hear you're having it must
be so rewarding to yourself.
Speaker 6 (26:54):
Yeah, I think for myself last year was tough. I
was injured a lot of the year, dealt with two
injuries that kind of kept me out for a bunch
of time. So that's never fun, uh said no, watching
your team play, not being able to help. But I
think I learned some stuff from that and was able
to bring that into this year, and yeah, it's been
good to build on that.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
Where do you kind of get your mindset from? Is
it something you've because you know, I've you lived in
my house, I've seen you since you were a kid.
I've seen your ups and downs and and uh, you
know as a teammate to a fan, Uh, just where
do you get your mindset from? Because you did have
some struggles, some injuries, and even last year you're you're
starting to really get on a roll and then you
(27:35):
hurt your hand, and and how did you through all
of that manage to stay kind of locked in and
just keeping better, just keep getting better and better every day? Like,
where do you attribute that to, Yeah, you know how
it is.
Speaker 6 (27:48):
I came in young, back when we were together. You
don't really know much about the league. You're just kind
of coming from junior trying to find your way, trying
to understand the game, and also just trying to find
your your own game and understand what you're good at. Obviously,
coming from younger levels you can kind of play more
(28:09):
of an open game and touch all facets, and in
the NHL you got to find your niches with what
you're able to be successful with and areas naturally you're
comfortable with where you like getting the puck and just
kind of trying to find consistency with that as well.
So I think through all of those ups and downs,
obviously it's not fun when you're going through it, but
(28:30):
at the same time, I mean, we're all lucky to
be NHL players, and you got to kind of look
at it that way while also learning where you can grow.
And I think that's kind of what it's been for me.
I've always loved the game and just keeping that through
those tough times.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Well, Baron, I wasn't gonna bring this up, but you know,
there's expression of a certain age, you know, he beat
him like he owed him money. And and to your expression,
I mean the fact that you said that you live
with them, is it true you're still own some rent money.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
He'll tell you that.
Speaker 6 (29:00):
I don't know if we got into the fine print
what what the details would be. But yeah, no, it's
always fun catching up. We caught up in New York
and yeah, probably, Hi, how are you? Where's my rent money?
That's kind of how it goes. Yeah, it's it's always fun.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Well, he did buy me dinner that night, but it
was because he lost credit card game and that's why
he ended up doing And so it was something that typically,
you know, he didn't want to. But so he's on
his way and you know, he's bought me a suit.
He's been a he was a gracious house guest. But
you know, we lived together through COVID, which was crazy
(29:36):
and you know, such a bonding experience for life. But
you know, we we The funny story before we get
into the Utah stuff, is we're living together, COVID shuts
down the world, my wife flies from New York to
shack up with us. He ends up having a COVID
girlfriend through the whole, the whole rung of it. Just
a COVID girl from COVID girlfriend. Yeah, he had a
(29:58):
COVID girlfriend, just zoom and stuff living in the house.
And these two kids at that point appbsolutely terrorized us
like rap. Me and my wife talked about it. No,
they terrorized us with pranks. They took over the house
to the point where we were fearful for our lives
and and just the ship they were pulling on us.
So talk about that whole experience of like going from
(30:19):
being you know, living with you know, by yourself or
with your family or billet families all of a sudden
like we're on our own in COVID and like having
to navigate that whole thing. What was your best moment
of that?
Speaker 6 (30:32):
Yeah, Yeah, that was definitely crazy times. Like you say,
obviously easy, like the rules were different than they were
in Canada. I know, my buddies and stuff like that.
My family they were locked in their house for a
long time, so we had a little more freedom. But yeah,
I mean that was definitely a situation that I don't
think will ever be replicated.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (30:55):
I don't know if I have too many comments on that.
Let's let's been the page.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Do you remember that. Do you remember the can venture,
the canned vegetables prank you pulled on me?
Speaker 6 (31:04):
Yeah, I got uh, I got those like memories on
your phone or whatever pops up, so I see. Uh yeah,
there was a long list that day we went in
on you and uh yeah, sticky notes. Uh there was
a lot of things. Yeah, hindsight, probably not the best move,
but in the moment it was it was worth it.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
He sticky noted my car that Daran rap on the door,
Like my car was covered in sticky notes. Then Saran
rap on the door, and then hit all of our
you know, me and my wife, you know, doomsday preppers.
So we like, hit all the cantvetiles, hit all the
cant vegetables. I pissed me off so bad I almost
killed them. But then I went in the room and
I looked at my wife. I'm like, God, that's a
(31:45):
good prank. I'm like, I can't.
Speaker 6 (31:47):
That was out of your own book. That was out
of your own book. You you liked that one a
little bit.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
It was good. I was like, these kids are I
can't hang with him anymore.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (31:56):
But you know, switching gears to Utah first year in Nantah,
you had to go through that transition. Talk about that
transition from Arizona to Utah. You know, how's it been
and kind of have you had any welcome to Utah
moments where it's like geez pinched myself, I'm on an
HL franchise now, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (32:14):
I honestly, it was such like a crazy transition. It
happened so fast, like there was rumors and stuff. We
didn't really know anything. But honestly, like the pinch me
moment or what kind of welcome to Utah, whatever you
want to call it. Ryan Smith his family, his kind
(32:37):
of tight group came down and met with us in Arizona,
and just like right from the get go, you could
tell how much he cared, how much he valued us,
and just kind of understood what we were going through.
And shortly after that we came down here for the
first time, and I think everyone kind of saw that
introduction where Spicy Tuna all began and it was crazy.
(32:59):
It was for like a quick little meet and greet
and Reno was sold out. It was rock and that
was like we didn't really know what it was gonna be.
We kind of thought we were just going to see
the area and whatnot and having that reception you felt
the first game of the year here was was nuts
and O JD saw that and really every game since then,
(33:21):
it's it's been so much fun.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
Speaking of Spicy Tuna, Liam O'Brien with a big impression
with that is he's still a local legend in Utah.
Speaker 6 (33:30):
Absolutely, Yeah, I know the people here love him and
rightfully so all the guys in the room love him too.
And yeah, he's the best.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
I mean, that's just such a great high IQ business
decision of what he did and getting himself signed so smart.
But you mentioned Ryan Smith, and do you got any
stories that stand out, like the coolest thing Ryan Smith
has done for you guys and coolest kind of experience
you've had, because he's really rolled out the red carpet
for you guys.
Speaker 6 (33:56):
Yeah, no, he really has. I guess I'm trying to
think of one specific thing, but honestly, just the whole time,
it's it's been unreal. Obviously, the one cool thing is
a connection with the Jazz. He's obviously the owner of
the NBA team here as well, and we've been fortunate
to go to a lot of games and it's cool
(34:16):
the way he's connected us with their head coach. We've
got to kind of go in their locker room around
games and understand the process. A lot of us have
followed basketball for a while and it's such a different
just like a different league, so it's been cool to
kind of see the insides of it and get to
(34:37):
know some of the guys. So it's definitely a long
list of things Ryan Smith has done for us, but
that's definitely been a really cool thing for us.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
Has Laurie Marketing have been around the team speaking of the.
Speaker 6 (34:47):
Jazz, Yeah, No, he has a bunch obviously, being a
finished guy, loves hockey, comes to a ton of our games.
It's crazy he uh JD saw this, but he was
on the ice for our first game he did. I
think it was a puck drop or something like that,
and it was just insane. You know, they're seven foot
whatever he is flying around. It was nuts.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
He's probably a huge team Usaloni fan, Like.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
Yeah, for sure. You uh In twenty twenty one, twenty
twenty twenty one, you got loanto Ilvis in the Finnish League. Yeah,
how was that experience in kind of like shaping your
career because that's pretty rare to go being loan to
a Finnish elite league team, like typically it's somewhere else,
but somewhere somewher closer to home.
Speaker 6 (35:29):
That was a unique thing. I was coming off of
COVID season. Leading into COVID was my nineteen year old year,
where with the CHL rules, you can't play in the
AHL you're either in junior or up in the NHL.
So I was fortunate enough to make the team. But
that year, I think I played like twenty five games
(35:50):
playing World Juniors. COVID happened, played a couple of games
in the bubble.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
It was just kind of a.
Speaker 6 (35:57):
Year that I didn't play a ton of hockey, and
being a young player, I thought it was important for
me to kind of get back into games and stuff.
And at that point we didn't know when the season
was going to start, So I think I went over
there October something like that. Bill had a relationship with
their general manager. Funny enough, Mattias Mitchelli, Yuso Valimaki and
(36:21):
a couple other guys who were drafted to NHL teams
over here were playing there, so it was just kind
of a connection there. I was looking to play went
over there. Unfortunately their season got shut down because of
COVID after a couple of games.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
It ended up.
Speaker 6 (36:35):
Being a funny thing with that, but it was definitely
something that I was all in on at the time,
and like you say, unique thing.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
For sure, a lot's been made better to what the
team's gonna be called next season. I was in favor
of the Yetti because so many teams have an asked
at the end, right Flyers, Rangers least, but the Kraken
is a rare one that does not, and the Yetie
could have been also now probably lost some team enough
to I'm not sure. Why what do you think the
team should be called next season?
Speaker 6 (36:59):
That's a good question.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (37:00):
I don't even really know what the latest is. I know, yeah,
yet he wasn't an option when it came down to it.
And then they're doing a bunch of like surveys and
uh stuff in Arena to kind of get the fans
idea because they wanted them to be really involved in
choosing the name.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
I think I think did what was that mountain range
they had that got shot down?
Speaker 6 (37:26):
So yeah, the loss ats so they were trying to
find like, uh yeah, because that's like what the mountain
range here is or whatever, like it's like a local thing.
But yeah, I guess that wasn't received the greatest, so
they switched that out. I think it finished being uh
potentially keeping Hockey Club Mammoth, and then I believe Outlaw
(37:49):
was uh the other options. So they were doing kind
of surveys around that and I haven't really heard anything Mammoth.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Yeah, which of those three do?
Speaker 1 (37:57):
Is?
Speaker 2 (37:57):
Like, have you heard like the consensus in the room
and like yourself, don't dot freak kind of six out
for you?
Speaker 6 (38:05):
It's honestly even split, And yeah, I don't. I don't know.
I'm gonna guys have honestly been kind of all over
the place. There hasn't really been a consensus. Number one.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
What you can give it rinswer, I know.
Speaker 6 (38:28):
This is my second. You guys said we were playing
easy here. I've given you two no comments.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
I know this is why Laws.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
You could say hockey club, which.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
Is the worst one that's that sounds like an English
Premier league, go with Mammoth is good?
Speaker 2 (38:47):
Or Outlaws other one? Fun I baited him in. I
said it's going to be really easy, and then we're
asking name Jesus.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
OK, how about this parent? The County spent two seasons
playing at moulderin of course the campus State University, very
unique building to plan. What was that like?
Speaker 6 (39:02):
Yeah, that uh obviously like so unique. I think from
like a fan's perspective, it would have been unreal. Like
my parents came to some games and they loved it.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
Like there's no.
Speaker 6 (39:16):
I mean no other venue that you get an experience
like that as a fan. As a player, it was
obviously different, like it's not what all the other arenas are.
But I think like when you're in it, like I
think I the first year I played every game there,
it wasn't until my second year when I got hurt
(39:38):
that you kind of get the different perspective and kind
of realize, like how much smaller it is, Like when
you're playing the roof was kind of low, dark, like
it didn't really feel as small. I think obviously other
teams would have a definitely different perspective on it, but yeah,
I think like when you were in it, you didn't
really think too much of it. It was just kind
(39:59):
of what you were what we were in.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
Yeah, it was such a great fan experien and so
I think for the players. It's like, you guys made
the best of it. I know a lot of road
teams are kind of like, oh god, but you know
when I asked after the games, guys like, yeah, it's
you know, it's kind of a little bit of a
hassle to get here, but like playing the game was
pretty cool. The fans are right on top of you.
But you know, I want to more talk about. Lastly,
(40:23):
kind of one of your teammates, you know, Clayton Keller.
He's you know, in my eyes, very underrated in the league.
But you've been living with him, he's kind of you
guys have kind of grown together and I feel like,
really work well together as as buddies as teammates. So
just talk a little bit of like what it means
to kind of have been living with him and also
(40:43):
learning from him and just like him not getting the
recognition he deserves.
Speaker 6 (40:48):
Yeah, he's so underrated, Like he's he's an unbelievable player,
but yeah, just speaking to kind of us living together
and being buddies and stuff. He's a guy I definitely
looked up to coming into the league, and he's also
just like underrated with how much he puts into the game.
I think we all joke around, mess around with stuff,
(41:09):
but at the end of the day, like he does
literally everything he can to be the best, and obviously
what he does on the skill side of the game
and all that and studying other players, and yeah, he's
also just so smart, like he knows knows everything. We'll
get into it sometimes over things, but he sees the
(41:30):
ice so well. He's so smart, so elusive. Yeah, I
mean he's so underrated.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
What's kind of something that he does? You know, you
guys play together a lot and just talking on the bench.
What's kind of one thing that he enjoys, you know,
like if you have a spot that he wants you
to go to, is it typically like his release point
or something like that, that that he'll be like, hey, man,
like if you're in trouble, this is where we go.
Like is it a lot of that conversation or is
(41:58):
it more kind of looking at the iPad saying this
is where we missed or is it really in the
moment saying like hey, this is our release points, is
where we need to go and all that. So it's
like kind of second nature.
Speaker 6 (42:09):
Yeah, I think it's definitely a big like chemistry aspect
with him, and you've seen that with him and Schmalty
for for the last couple of years, and I think,
like they're so good at kind of getting that flow
and playing off each other and stuff that kind of
those release points there. Teams are so good now that
(42:31):
when you get pressured and if there's any scrums or
anything like that, you're pretty much dead. So just keeping
the puck move and finding those release points. And yeah,
like I mean, we're all super competitive, so whether it's
in the moment, stuff on the iPad, talking after the game,
it's always kind of a work in progress. And yeah,
(42:51):
I mean I'm trying to think of kind of a
specific thing, but for the most part, it's just kind
of working off each other.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
And yeah, well we put it to the test. Go ahead, Well,
hang on, I gotta you gotta give me. You're gonna
give me one.
Speaker 2 (43:08):
And it's gonna be why the nickname gummy Bear because
that's his nickname. Nice on the team, and and it's
because you're taking it. Well, if you tell him why
gummy Bear, I think.
Speaker 1 (43:18):
We'll lay it on me.
Speaker 6 (43:19):
What were you gonna say? You can't you can't hold no,
my my, what I.
Speaker 2 (43:24):
Heard was because you go to the net and take
an absolute ship kicking. No, no, you got bad info,
give it to me.
Speaker 6 (43:35):
I don't honestly like the whole no no no no
no no no, like the whole backstory, like I don't
know hell like Kel's got on it, but it's ultimately
from Jay Swish like Jordan Schmaltz. He and I played
together in Tucson for a little bit and we're like
roommates for a bit and stuff like that. And I
(43:58):
didn't even like hear it until he and Kells must
have been texting or something and Joe Carden said that
to Kells, and Kels is like, who are you talking about?
And explained it. So then Kells the next day, you know,
it was going around saying it. So now now it's
stuck pretty good.
Speaker 1 (44:17):
I think a great nickname.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
I think it's a great nickname.
Speaker 1 (44:20):
The Yeah, uh, Barrett, it was a great chat with you, man, honest,
You've had a great here with you. Tom. We'll keep
it going. And obviously the fact that you you live
with JD and live to tell the tale, it speaks
volumes about your character. Congrats, buddy, Yeah, thank you guys.
Speaker 6 (44:33):
I appreciate it mm.
Speaker 1 (44:35):
Hmm, all right, Tom Nafolotle Centophile in six he hadn't
been the movie theaters in a walkle because I'm so
lucky to get all these screeners sent to me. But
I said, I've gotta go support my man Bob de Niro.
And he's got a new movie called The Alto Nights,
which came in a couple of weeks ago, and it's
already not playing in theaters, and it's forty percent rotten
tomatoes and so not good. I gotta get in right now.
(44:55):
Barry Levinson's a director. He directed Bugsy, a great mob movie,
and Nick Pledgie wrote the script. Nick Pleedgie wrote Wise Guy,
upon which Good Fellows was based. He wrote that script
score says later wrote, Casino wrote that with Marty as well.
And so you already know this going in JD. You're like, well,
the reviews have not been good, so clearly this is
great people just training on their fame and mailing it in.
And that's exactly what happened to The Alto Night's two
(45:16):
hour film, which is pretty disposable. Danio is playing two
roles in it. Now their characters picklarly memorable and really
the fault lies a pledge. It's not particularly engaging strips.
It's about Frank Costello. But you know, I like these
mob stories. As you mentioned, Kill the Irishman, Great mob movie.
The more interesting part for you is this. When I
got there, there wasn't many seats in the theater, and
so there was like two on one and two on.
There's two in the middle that are open. I like, go, okay,
(45:36):
one person be sitting next to you. I going by myself, obviously,
I get my milk duds eighteen bucks and I go
see a movie six seventy five for a pack of milk.
That's is insane. But the guy sitting in my seat
and I walk in, I goes yeah, and I go
and the trailers already played. I don't like to watch
the trailers. I like to get there just of the
movie starting. So the trailers are and I go yeah.
I go no, no, because it's that's egregious. Twenty five
minutes of trailers is insane. I way too long. None.
Speaker 2 (45:57):
I live for trailers.
Speaker 1 (45:58):
Six fifteen movie. I'm like, no, six thirty, Like, I'll
watch one show. Anyways. I see the guy, I'm like,
you're in my seat. He goes, I'll see for me, Isaac,
but the one seat is still open. She's kind of
like motions like once you just sit there. I'm like, well,
I want you to sit in your correct seat. I'll
sit in my proper seat and I'll have an extra
seat next. But so now you're taking like rather than
having one arm rest right now, I'm like, I'm sandwich
and I'm like, okay, well whatever, I have a re
client seat. It's all good. We watched the movie and
(46:21):
he's a loud eater, like he's he's crushing that popcorn
and normally like I'm in the mat Na's no one's there.
I see movies by myself. I'm like the only guy
in the theater. But I've never been like next to
two people who are I'm not friends with. And the
one she's okay, she's quietly munched away and I've got
my Dutch. Let's got crushing that corn. Is the movie ends. Uh,
he turns to me, what'd you think I went very good?
Gauess yea, I was't very good? Yeah, because he goes,
(46:41):
do they just need the money? Like just Dani and Levinson,
Like yeah, you know, they're all really famous guys and
they're just painting off their fame and everyone knows guys
like me and you will go see it. He's like, oh, yeah,
from the writer of Good Fellows. And then the movie
stinks and he's like yeah, and he goes, this is
the weirdest part to me. I too the other lady.
I go, what do you think was She goes, oh,
that's pretty good. Ago you know what she's talking about.
It wasn't very good, she lays it. I turned back
to the guy.
Speaker 2 (47:00):
I got this.
Speaker 1 (47:01):
The story was a very engaging We've seen better mob movies,
Like what really is the point of the story is?
Speaker 2 (47:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (47:04):
Then he he sticks in his hand and because I'm Daniel,
and I'm like, this is so bizarrely, why are you
introducing yourself to me? We sat next to the moving here,
we're not friends, We're gonna remember each other again. Why
would you Because I'm Daniel. So I go, okay, I'm
gonna say a Frank and I go, I'm Frank. I think.
He goes, Frank, Frank, good to meet check. Thanks you guess,
he says, Frank, because I knew you're either Jewish or Italian,
(47:29):
and said time. Because I knew it. I knew it.
Tell as a Jew. I've gotten Italian before, I've never
gotten jew before. This is this is the first time, buddy,
and you're gonna.
Speaker 2 (47:38):
Be proud of congratulations, welcome.
Speaker 4 (47:40):
Maybe perhaps a Sephardic Jew.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
I guess I get Jewish all the time.
Speaker 1 (47:48):
People always think you're a Jew.
Speaker 2 (47:49):
At what point you did think you're a Jew? At
one point I did, so there is a basis there
for it. But uh yeah, they just already thinks of
a Jew. Yeah, I just you know. The thing I
love is when you put just an absolutely egregious comment
of something you do in your monologu and then I
can't jump in and pile on you, like you don't
like trailers, And it's just I'm just on tilt right
(48:11):
now that you don't like trailers. But I can't say anything, Okay,
I gotta like because they gotta let you goest in
a file and sixty. So I have to sit here
and be like this son of a bitch.
Speaker 1 (48:19):
Just how about this in a vacuum? I like trailers,
if right? And he said, like last night step to
one thirty, the more watching heat because to support Valcam
I do together. So if you just said me, you
want to watch a trailer to heat, Like, of course,
it's a great til, it's a great movie. But I'm
saying there's too many trailers, too much time before the
actual movie. That's my main contention. If you told me
two trailers movie starts, I'm in. But it's twenty five minutes.
Jad it's six trailers.
Speaker 2 (48:39):
I sit on YouTube and watch like the twenty twenty
five upcoming movies. It's like a two hour video, and
I'll watch very pro trailer. Okay, wow, you're on all trailers. Yeah,
I could, because nowadays they just show the movie in
a trailer. So I've seen. I've seen ten million movies.
Speaker 1 (48:54):
Tell worre you on a trailers. When I was younger,
I was like JD. If I was eighteen, I could
do what he was doing. Now I couldn't care less.
Back in the day, I watch a lot of trailers.
Speaker 2 (49:01):
Now, guys too artsy, big trailer fan. I enjoy them.
Speaker 4 (49:04):
I do think there's too many, though.
Speaker 5 (49:05):
I definitely get to a point where I feel like
the movie's about to start. If I'm in an AMC,
I'm ready for Nicole Kidman to come out and give
her whole spiel before the movies at a m every
time she's there, and then they but then there'll be
another trailer, and.
Speaker 4 (49:20):
I'm going, I, okay, but I'm ready to watch the
movie now. I like trailers.
Speaker 5 (49:26):
I'd rather watch them on on my phone or something
like that to pass the time. Like like JD said,
a lot of these films they put pretty much the
whole movie in the trailer.
Speaker 4 (49:34):
So yeah, it's a fun, funny, fun experience.
Speaker 2 (49:37):
Question for both of you. How many times have you
watched the Honora trailer? You six sons you never saw?
Speaker 1 (49:42):
Because again, if I know I want to see the movie,
I don't watch the trailer.
Speaker 2 (49:45):
I'll give you. Okay.
Speaker 1 (49:45):
Nice like Paul Thomas a new movie. He's one of
my favorite directors. Literally, DiCaprio was in the movie. The
trailers released last week. I go, I'm not gonna watch
you nuts like I'm watching the movie. It's coming out
in August. I'm in. I get September twenty sixth.
Speaker 4 (49:56):
Whever, Well, that's the trailer is pretty good. I will
say that's it's pretty good.
Speaker 1 (50:00):
Trailer called what's the title. It's Paul Thomas Anderson's new film.
Letter to the for Shan Pensen it as well. We'll
get the title on the second here, but yeah, I
don't even Another example is the Brutalist. All I heard
was Oscar contender Adrian Brody got good. I didn't ever
watched the trailer. I was like, if I'm into the movie,
I don't want see trail because it's gonapoil it for me.
One battle after Another's new Paul Thomas Anderson movie. It's
(50:20):
coming out later this year.
Speaker 2 (50:21):
Okay, cool, awesome, sweet, all.
Speaker 1 (50:23):
Right, let's talk because you were there for a vettion,
not the actual goal rerecord. We were there at washing
him prior to And how about this celebration now, Budweiser
Canada especially can of beer to the twenty eight goalies
who didn't allow any of Obie's eight hundred and ninety
five career goals. The beers were labeled zero of eight
ninety five and featured a tag them that read the
greatest goal score of all time. Couldn't score on these
kings of zero. When former NHL goalie Eddie Lack heard
(50:46):
about this special beer, came went on Twitter and said,
this is bullshit. If I knew there was beers involved,
I would have tried harder.
Speaker 2 (50:53):
Eddie lack Lackhers your boy. Lacker's funny. He's got a
good little We should get him on. He's a good
he's got a good little sense of humor for the
for the league, real estate agent, extraordinary and nice in
Arizona now as well. Yeah, but that's funny. I saw
the Curtis Joseph had the beer and everything. That was cool.
So it's a funny little It's a funny little I
mean add on to the whole celebration I think is
(51:15):
cool as the goals that weren't scored on.
Speaker 1 (51:16):
But yeah, but what about the fact that if you
want a hard ticket. Thomas Hickey was a part of
our broadcast in Winnipeg, went just as a fan. He
just wanted to go see a Metica the record He
did and left immediately after. Made the plan all good afterwards.
A tech ticket if there's a store, if you want
the hard copy of the ticket, everyone used to get
that for free. It's forty five dollars. That is absolute surdity.
If you went to that game. Jason de Murz and this,
(51:36):
I want I want to I want to keep sick.
How he's forty five dollars for a stub. That's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (51:41):
Yeah, but we could have got a press pass and
then sold that press pass on eBay. Yes, it's not
about that hard copy press pass. Ad Nan Verk the Jew.
Speaker 1 (51:55):
Me and Rosenbaum, I love it. Fantastic. H We do
end on some sad news here, which you pass along
to me first over text. I couldn't believe it. Long
time NHL executive race here passing with the age of
sixty two. He was the GM of the Penguins, so
they won the Cup in nine. He was a gym
of the Devil's, recently working as a senior advisor in Minnesota.
Wild gym Bill Garon, who was a player on that
Penguins team, said Angel Chemistery Garry, Bevan Ray Shierro smile
(52:17):
and personality lit up every room he walked into him
bright in the day of everyone he met. Of course
Fred Schierld, the great Flyers coach's dad. Very sad news
and very unexpected her.
Speaker 2 (52:27):
Yeah, everything I've heard. I never met him personally, but
everything I heard from guys, he was just a fantastic
human being. I know Verne Fiddler when he was in
Jersey for one of his last years, they basically like
let him go home on days off and they'd fly
him home to see his family because he was living
without his family and kids, and that was all Ray
doing that. So I mean, there's just so many stories
(52:49):
of him just being a gracious, amazing human being. So,
you know, sad, it's a sad day. It's been a
tough year in hockey with a lot of hockey losses.
Speaker 1 (52:58):
Greg Millan also passing away in London, which is stunning news.
There's a long time.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
Goalie I know, and like quickly too, like you know Ray,
it was it was quick as well. So it's just
it's been a tough year in hockey in terms of
some really really notable passings and some sad, sad days.
So you know, hearts go out to the family and yeah, man,
he's just everything I've heard. He's just an amazing human being.
Speaker 1 (53:20):
Definitely our thoughts and prayers. Quay, it's the Shiro family
has some tough news there, and real quick, I just
want to mention this because I think your perspective will
help on this. Just keep talking about Peter Laviolette and
what he said after they lost the Tampa the other day.
Speaker 2 (53:32):
He said, I don't have a message right now. I
don't go into the locker room after the game show.
Speaker 1 (53:35):
And people were criticizing is he trying to get the
to lot of treatments? He's trying to get fired. And
you can tell me as a long time player, the
coaches don't always go in the room after the game.
Is that true?
Speaker 2 (53:43):
Majority don't go after a loss. So that was something.
I think he just voiced it, and I think, you know,
media will run with it. I don't think there was
much to it. I initially my reaction was like what,
but then yeah, most guys don't go and I don't
think he's ever gone in the room, Lavvy He's never
somebody that goes in the room. So so yeah, so
I don't think it's much to it. I mean, the
mess that is New York is more to talk about
(54:05):
than Lavin not going in the room. So that whole
coaching staff is a lot more to worry about. It's
a shitty situation there top the bottom.
Speaker 1 (54:12):
If indeed the Rangers don't make the playoffs, and see
what changes they could be making with the gards, that
lobby lot and the rest of that stuff. Again, thanks
to Baron Hayten, thanks to Jason Demerson, Thanks to tal Ponchowski.
