Tkachuk suspended 1 game for unsportsmanlike conduct

Calgary Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk was suspended one game by the NHL Department of Player Safety on Friday.

Tkachuk was suspended for unsportsmanlike conduct against the Detroit Red Wings in the third period of their game Wednesday.
Tkachuk hit Red Wings forward Luke Witkowski on the leg with his stick in the third period while Witkowski was skating off the ice after being ejected. Tkachuk received a five-minute major penalty for spearing and a game misconduct.
Tkachuk is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the NHL collective bargaining agreement and, based on his average annual salary, will forfeit $11,280.49. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
Tkachuk has 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 18 games this season, his second in the NHL.
The Flames play at the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday then next play Monday at the Washington Capitals.
Witkowski on Thursday received an automatic 10-game suspension for returning to the ice to take part in an altercation after being escorted off by an official.
The Red Wings won the game 8-2.
