The Montreal Canadiens goalie made 37 saves in a 10-2 win against the Florida Panthers to end the regular season Friday.
"I'm just continuing to get a lot of swelling in my knee," Price said Saturday. "So due to that fact, it's been difficult to do a lot of things that I would consider well out there. Last night, for instance, I played pretty well, it was a pretty good game. But in that same token there are different aspects of goaltending that's required these days that is very difficult for me to do. So we're going to get us another opinion and go from there."
Price's first win since Game 4 of the 2021 Stanley Cup Final came in his fifth start this season for Montreal (22-49-11), which did not qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
"This is definitely tough," Price said, "but I've always been a fighter and I've always been a clawer so I'm not giving up. So I'm going to continue to do my best to prepare for next season."
The Canadiens leader in wins (361) and games played (712) by a goalie said he prepared for his 700th start fully aware it could prove to be his last game.
"It was just an exceptional day for myself," Price said. "I had a great sleep. It was just an A-plus day. If it is it, then that would be a great way to do it."
Price made his season debut April 15. He was 1-4-0 with a 3.63 goals-against-average and .878 save percentage.
"At the end of the day what we're hoping to get is clarity in terms of, is this an injury that Carey is going to be able to recover from and return to true form or not?" Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes said. "Is it something that he is going to be able to play with? We don't have those answers right now. He came back and he's had a very small sample size. I think it continues to be bothersome to him, so he's clearly not at 100 percent.
"Whether this is an injury that prevents him from ever being able to play again? I don't think we have that answer. And to tell you that that answer comes from a medical procedure or an imaging or any of that, we're not at that point right now."
Price had not dressed for Montreal's previous two games and met with the doctor who performed the arthroscopic knee surgery he had in New York on July 23 to repair a torn meniscus.
"There were still a lot of question marks for me," Price said. "We sat down briefly, then went over some imaging, and no real questions were answered for me."
Price said the possibility of having another surgery is "on the table."
"I'm not going to lie, it's been a difficult process," Price said. "It's been a frustrating one but I think moving forward, having another opinion and we're going to sit down and formulate a plan. And as I've always done throughout my career, just try to execute that plan as well as I can.
"I think the best thing I can do is stay positive and do my very best to work towards starting next season."
