Capitals' good-luck charm shares news before Game 5 of Final

LAS VEGAS -- Addy Flint got the good news she wanted and hopes there's more coming for her friend, T.J. Oshie, and the Washington Capitals.
Hours before Oshie and the Capitals tried to win the Stanley Cup against the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday (8 p.m. ET; NBC, CBC, SN, TVAS), Flint posted on her Twitter account, @addyroar, that her three-month scans taken Wednesday were clean and she is cancer-free.

Flint, a 10-year-old from Alexandria, Virginia who has been battling kidney cancer, became friends with Oshie when they were paired for a Capitals Hockey Fights Cancer skate for children from Make-A-Wish's Mid-Atlantic chapter in November 2016. Her cancer was in remission at the time, but it returned a year ago.

Oshie and his wife, Lauren, have kept in touch with Flint and her mother, Stacey, through emails, texts and social media, and have become close.
Flint has also become a bit of a good luck charm for Oshie. He scored a goal in each of the two games she attended during Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Month in November 2016 and two more when she was at Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Capital One Arena, including the winning goal in 3-0 victory.

"You could say that, for sure, with her special ladybug earrings," Oshie said of Flint being a good luck charm. "She wears them on game days, so they seem to be the good luck charm."
Flint ended cancer treatments in March because her body was unable to handle the stresses of chemotherapy and radiation with her suppressed immune system. She and her family were keeping their fingers crossed leading into her tests Wednesday that the cancer was gone.
The Capitals' chase of the Stanley Cup -- they led the Golden Knights 3-1 in the best-of-7 series -- has provided a pleasant diversion from the illness.
"It just kind of takes my mind off it and distracts me," Flint said last week. "Whenever I'm really stressed out about it and kind of a little freaked out, it distracts me and makes me calm down a little."
Flint has been watching the Cup Final from home with her family and friends and hopes Washington can win the championship Thursday.
"Sending @TJOshie77 and the @Capitals our good luck tonight!!" Flint tweeted. "Bring it home!! WE WANT THE CUP."
