OTT@WPG: Stutzle powers Senators with first NHL hatty

WINNIPEG--
Tim Stutzle
scored his first NHL hat trick, and the Ottawa Senators defeated the Winnipeg Jets 4-2 at Bell MTS Place on Saturday.

"Stutzle
made 27 saves and Shane Pinto had two assists.
"I think we played a great game as a team," said Stutzle, the No. 3 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. "[Gustavsson] was unbelievable as well. He kept us in the game and had some huge saves. It was a great team win today."

OTT@WPG: Brown deflects Mete's shot for opening goal

Brown scored his 20th goal to give the Senators a 1-0 lead at 10:13 of the first period before Stutzle made it 2-0 at 11:29.
"Twenty goals in a shortened season is special for a guy that hasn't scored in that range," Senators coach D.J. Smith said. "That's phenomenal for him. And then Stutzle's first hat trick, great, it's good things to see. Obviously, he's coming on here as of late."
Mason Appleton cut the lead to 2-1 55 seconds into the second period.
"We've played these guys twice in the last three games and given up 20 shots each game, so by NHL standards it's a pretty good effort as well," Jets captain Blake Wheeler said. "But you do have to give these guys credit, especially when they've got the lead. They did a good job of clogging up the neutral zone. We had some looks and just our execution wasn't quite there. Their goalie had another good night there as well."
Stutzle scored to make it 3-1 at 5:11 of the third period.
"I think those two guys are great players and I really enjoy playing with them," Stutzle said of Brown and Pinto. "We try to make plays all over the ice all the time. … We talk after every shift. That's why we're able to get better. Especially [Brown], he's great and helps me out a lot."

OTT@WPG: Scheifele wrists home 200th career NHL goal

Scheifele made it 3-2 at 19:07.
"It's tough when you're down two [goals], they pack up the neutral zone and they make you dump pucks," Scheifele said. "So that's just being on the same page, making good dumps, making good reads, and getting some O-zone time and getting some chances through that as opposed to on the rush."
Stutzle scored a power-play goal into an empty net at 19:54 for the 4-2 final.
"It definitely felt good," he said. "I think I had a lot of chances through a couple games and they just really didn't go in. It's really good to get those ones."
Smith said, "I think it's a lot of confidence. A hat trick as a first-year kid, 19 years old, and he's had his ups and downs as well, but obviously that line with [Pinto and Brown] has been real good. They're looking for him out there and he's done a nice job."
NOTES:Stutzle, who has scored 11 goals, had his first NHL multigoal game. He has five multipoint games this season. … Wheeler has scored seven points (three goals, four assists) on a six-game point streak. He has a six-game point streak in each of his past seven seasons.
