When we say that the 2017 calendar year had everything, we do mean everything.

We're not talking about only the amazing goals and slick saves, of which there were plenty. We mean 2017 had enough wild originality and super-creative people around the NHL to make 2017 a truly special one.
Our Short Shifts team put together 17 of the best viral moments of 2017.

1. Reaves vs. Kessel

The Pittsburgh Penguins' new odd couple, Ryan Reaves and Phil Kessel, simply are the greatest. It's a prank war that is one-sided, sure, but Kessel's reactions are just as important to the relationship as Reaves' tricks. The highlight was Reaves
scaring the daylights out of Kessel right before Halloween
. But then
there was also the "Thriller" shirt.

2. Jagr meets the Traveling Jagrs

The Travelling Jagrs were waiting on a team to sign the object of their attention back when the future Hall of Famer was a free agent this summer. Then,
when he signed with the Calgary Flames
, they needed a new Jagr to join the group. And then
the man himself volunteered as a candidate.

3. Boyle cries after first Devils goal

Emotions were running high after Brian Boyle's first goal of the season, which came in his fifth game back with the New Jersey Devils from being treated for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). And who could blame him?
In a TV interview Boyle let it out
, talking about the love and support he received from his family, friends, teammates and fans.

4. Canucks fan wins car with miracle shot

Aaron Dunn went to the Vancouver Canucks' game against the Nashville Predators on Dec. 13 not knowing he would become an internet sensation. But the graphic designer from Kamloops, British Columbia, burned up social media
with a miraculous shot from center ice
through a tiny slot in a goal to win a new car. His first shot went left, second one went right and third went right through.

5. Service dog becomes a star in Dallas

It was just a man, Nevada Grassie, and his dog, Six, enjoying a hockey game.
But Six took the internet by storm
after Grassie, a veteran of the Air Force, shared the stories of the amazing German shepherd. Six was ready for her close-up, as she was shown on the scoreboard at the game and on the television broadcast.

6. Subban breath of fresh air in Cup Final

P.K. Subban, the Nashville Predators star defenseman, is as quick with a quip as he is to unleash a slap shot. After Game 3 of the 2017 Stanley Cup Final and his run-in with Penguins captain Sidney Crosby,
Subban joked that Crosby "told me my breath smelled.
" Subban, of course,
showed up to Game 4 carrying a bottle of mouthwash.
You know, just in case.

7. Penguins march on Pittsburgh

These Penguins didn't have skates on, but they were accustomed to ice. During the 2017 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series back in February,
seven Penguins from the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium showed up at Heinz Field
to support their team.

8. Kissel's backup singers

Country singer Brett Kissel's mic went out during "The Star-Spangled Banner" before Game 3 of the 2017 Western Conference Second Round,
but Oilers fans picked up the slack in spectacular fashion.
Oilers fans singing "O, Canada" also quickly became a playoff tradition, as did the Predators trotting out some of country music's biggest stars to sing the anthem before playoff games in Nashville.

9. Chris Pronger vs. Justin Bieber

There were so many lasting images from the 2017 NHL All-Star festivities in Los Angeles. From Ryan Kesler's
son scoring
on Carey Price in the shootout to Mike Smith's
amazing length of the ice goal
, but the one that stands out above all is
Chris Pronger squishing Justin Bieber against the boards in the celebrity game
. Pronger, one of the most feared defensemen to lace up skates, pinned the pop superstar to the glass and was photographed with a huge grin on his face in the act. Bieber also loved it, and probably also loved his empty-net goal to seal a win for Team Gretzky.

10. A Smashing Proposal

When Conor Payne wanted to propose to girlfriend Morgan Landsberg, he knew the best way to do it was to have her
favorite Nashville Predators player, Viktor Arvidsson, deliver the ring
. All Landsberg wanted was a picture of Arvidsson, but she got the memory of a lifetime, including a ringing endorsement from P.K. Subban.

11. Dart Guy becomes famous fan

Jason Maslakow went to see his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs play the Washington Capitals during the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs decked out to the max. But he probably never imagined he would become famous.
The man now and forever known as "Dart Guy
was the be-all, end-all symbol of die-hard fandom, inspiring countless memes and becoming the avatar for Maple Leafs supporters.

12. Burns and Thornton featured in 'Body Issue'

Joe Thornton officially re-signed with the San Jose Sharks
while sitting on a riding mower
and it is still not the most internet-amazing thing he did this year. No,
that would be participating in the ESPN The Magazine's Body Issue
. In fact, he and teammate Brent Burns graced the cover of the always heavily-viewed issue.

13. Young fan meets Crosby, cries happy tears

Never meet your heroes? Forget that saying. One Pittsburgh youth met Sidney Crosby and got his Penguins T-shirt signed by the Penguins captain and
proclaimed on television it was, "the best day of my life!"

14. Predators fan missed message about Cup tickets

And you thought you had bad luck? Poor Nashville Predators fan Andrew Fudge cleared out his inbox in July and
missed a June message about winning tickets to Game 6 the 2017 Stanley Cup Final.
All is well that ends well, though, as Fudge was the Predators' guest on opening night of the 2017-18 season.

15. Caring fan looks out for stranger

Jimmy Mains, a local police office in Rankin, Pennsylvania, was going to a Penguins game in March by himself. He tried, but couldn't find a friend with no commitments for the night. Instead of taking the extra room,
he invited a homeless man
inside PPG Paints Arena with him. A friendship was born.

16. Golden Knights first signing plays soccer alone

For a while there, it was lonely being Reid Duke. Long before the Vegas Golden Knights were smashing records for NHL expansion teams and becoming the League's darling, they had one player,
which made for some boring pre-game soccer
. But the team
filled its roster with more guys
, got
a mascot that burned up social media
and then bolted to the top of the Western Conference.

17. 3-year-old girl reminds Nashville to be proud

Losing the Stanley Cup Final can be crushing, but the love and support of the fans can mean everything. And the Nashville Predators got
perhaps the cutest love and support video of all time.
Her name is Wrigley, she's 3 years old and she was super-proud of her team's season.
