Robin Lehner

Buffalo Sabres goalie Robin Lehner is going old school for the 2018 Bridgestone Winter Classic. And for warmups, he may be going really, really old school.

During the game, where the Sabres will take on the New York Rangers at Citi Field, home of Major League Baseball's New York Mets which was
referenced on Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist's pads
, Lehner's mask will feature a nod to one of the greatest goalies of all time.

The bucket features a small illustration of a classic Hasek save on either side and a large number 39, the Hall of Famer's jersey number.
Hasek, a six-time Vezina Trophy winner, spent nine of his 16 seasons in Buffalo. He won two Hart Trophies in Buffalo while leading the franchise to the 1999 Stanley Cup Final. The lid, designed by David Gunnarsson of DaveArt, also features the Sabres Classic logo on top.
While Lehner will wear the new mask during the game, he will go way back during warmups, he hopes.

According to Sabres equipment manager Rip Simonick, the artifact he will plan to wear during warmups is a mask from Paul Harrison's 1981-82 season.

It does look very much like an unpainted version of a mask Gerry Desjardins wore while between the pipes in Buffalo from 1974-1978.
